2021 Christmas Letter

Published: December 13, 2021

Dear Cherished Volunteers, Donors, & Friends,

Merry Christmas! I made cookies today and thought of you. This is my favorite time of year, and SMHC is overwhelmingly blessed. I wish I had room to list every staff member, volunteer, board member, and individual who has supported us this year. Thank you for making our sweet 16th birthday spectacular. Thank you for sharing your time, talent, & treasure this year!

In 2021, we held a successful virtual Tea Party, hosted our annual Golf Outing at the Garrett County Club, and enjoyed a Dine to Donate fundraiser at Wings Etc.-Kendallville. This Year Tammy Stafford, RN BSN hosted a special thank you luncheon for the Curiosity Shop volunteers as their tireless efforts support our clinic all year long! The clinic and our Executive Director were nominated as Duesy Award Finalists! Giving Tuesday DeKalb 2021 was a tremendous success for us and many other nonprofits. This year, two cherished original board members left a legacy of service and commitment to make our community healthier and were both were called home. This fall our staff and volunteers received training and developed new skills to help us better serve the patients we love so much. We loved getting together at the CLC in Kendallville together! In 2021 we have documented over 4,000 patient visits and served over 1200 unique people in medical, dental, vision, hearing, mental health counseling, and perceptions assistance. We have given out millions of dollars (wholesale price) in medications at no cost to our patients. We have hosted high school and college students who are the future leaders in medicine, pharmacy, dental, and mental health. We went to three school systems to offer sports physicals.

Your support empowers our patients to take control of their health. Thanks to you, all of us are inspired to keep fighting the good fight! Thank you. You have safeguarded our faith. Our patient stories and surveys attest to how needed our clinic services are to care for those without the ability to care for themselves. So they come to us — St. Martin’s Healthcare.

The overwhelming community support of our mission allows SMHC to stay open! We serve the uninsured and underinsured needs of DeKalb and Noble County Indiana residents, and it’s all thanks to you. We do not receive government funding. Clinic funding comes from fundraisers, grants, foundations, churches, businesses, civic organizations, and donors. As a reminder, the clinic will be closed for the upcoming Holidays on December 20th – through January 2nd for Christmas and New Year. SMHC will re-open on January 3rd at 9 AM. Additionally, our Annual Tea Party will be held on February 19th, 2022. Thank you for supporting us this year, you are a cherished volunteer. Stay healthy, safe, and blessed. See you in the New Year!
